Paul Garrido, Clinic Manager/Staff PT
Paul is the clinic manager for our Trawood Drive location in East El Paso. Prior to being accepted into Physical Therapy school, Paul attended the University of Texas at El Paso with a Biology major. He completed his Master of Physical Therapy in 2003 and began working at Border Therapy the following year.
Paul is McKenzie Certified A-D, and specializes in orthopedic therapy, sports medicine, and treating patients with low back pain and knee pain. Paul’s newest professional interest is in amputees.
Paul is married and has two children. In his spare time, Paul likes to travel, spend time with his children, and play golf and basketball.
Mark Scott, Provider Relations Director/Staff ATC, LAT, CES
Mark obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in Kinesiology in 1987 from the University of Texas at El Paso. He also completed an Athletic Training Internship Program at UTEP from the year 1981 to 1986.
Mark has been a Board Certified Athletic Trainer (NATABOC) since 2003, a State Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) since 1987, and a National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM-CES) since 2013. Other certifications he has are Independent Course – current evaluation and treatment for the shoulder by Mike Reinhold and Corrective Exercise Certification (NASM).
Mark is the Marketing Manager responsible for developing relationships with local physicians and he has been working at Border Therapy for 14 years. He specializes in treating overhead athletes with shoulder issues and ACL rehab. He loves returning athletes to sports swiftly and in a timely manner.
Mark has been married for 26 years to Norma and they have three wonderful kids, Sarah Jean who is now 22, Jean at 18, and Aaron who is 16 years old. He tries to play golf in his spare time. He loves to work out, swim, play racquetball, and spend time with family. Mark is also an usher for his church. His faith is strong with God.
Wayne Shaw, Owner, Director of Operations
Wayne is one of the owners of Border Therapy. He completed an MS in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1988 and and MS in Kinesiology in 1992. He is also CSCS and CES certified.
Wayne is married to his wife, Erika Shaw, and has a daughter, Cydney Shaw. Some of his hobbies and interests are working out, playing golf, family time, going to church, RVing, sporting events, movies, yard work, home improvement, and attending his daughter’s college volleyball matches.
Andrew Martinez, Staff PT
Andrew attended the University of Texas at El Paso and graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Biology. He then proceeded to obtain his Doctor of Physical Therapy at UTEP and graduated in 2014. He also completed additional graduate coursework towards a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science.
Andrew specializes in post-operative rotator cuff and ACL repair patients.
Andrew has one newborn daughter and likes to go to the gym in his spare time.
Joel Martinez, Staff PT
Joel completed his degree in Kinesiology and Master of Physical Therapy from the University of Texas at El Paso. The same year that he completed his degree in physical therapy he began working at Border Therapy as a staff therapist.
Joel is McKenzie Certified A-B and specializes in treating patients with knee or shoulder and sports injuries.
His personal hobbies and interests are cars, gambling, watching sports, and traveling.
Viviana Rios, Staff DPT
Viviana completed a Bachelor of Kinesiology in 2012 and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2015 from University of Texas at El Paso. She began working at Border therapy in 2016. Viviana specializes in treating patients for shoulder and knee injuries/pain.
Viviana is married. She enjoys spending time with family, playing sports (especially volleyball) and traveling. She is an active member at her church, especially in the musical department.
Michelle Rios, Staff PTA
Michelle completed a Bachelor of Kinesiology in 2005 and a Master’s in Physical Therapy in 2008 from the University of Texas at El Paso. She began working at Border Therapy in 2007 as a part of her affiliation and has been with the practice ever since.
Michelle specializes in treating knee pain patients.
In her spare time, Michelle likes to run and workout. She also plays basketball and enjoys family time.
